‘It was normal for me to base the stories in Lenyenye, where I come from’ – Keletso Mopai chats about her book If You Keep Digging
More about the book!

Keletso Mopai chatted to SABC Morning Live recently about her new book of short stories, If You Keep Digging.
If You Keep Digging highlights marginalised identities and looks at the daily lives of people who may otherwise be forgotten or dismissed.
Mopai was born and raised in Lenyenye township, Limpopo, and sets many of her stories in that area.
‘When I read authors from Nigeria they often base their stories in the villages where they come from,’ Mopai says. ‘Because I wanted to tell stories about my home, about my people, it was normal for me to base the stories in Lenyenye, where I come from.
‘Some of the stories are based in Seshego, some of them in Bolobedu. Some of the settings inspired the stories, like the story ‘Become a God’, which was inspired by the history of the Rain Queens, which is why I based it in Bolobedu.’
- Don’t forget: Book clubs that place an order of 10 or more copies of If You Keep Digging in August will receive a 50% discount from BlackBird Books! Additionally, book clubs will have the chance to interact with the author to discuss the book, as part of the Digging Sessions. Find out more here.
