More about the book!
BlackBird Books recently launched a series of YouTube chats with your favourite authors!
The first episode featured Marah Louw, author of It’s Me, Marah, baring her soul to BlackBird publisher Thabiso Mahlape.
In the second episode, Mahlape chats to Esinako Ndabeni, author of Born To Kwaito: Reflections on the Kwaito Generation.
Mahlape speaks about how BlackBird has grown and developed since it was launched in 2015, and where she sees the publisher going next.
Mahlape also reveals what kind of books BlackBird is interested in publishing.
For her part, Ndabeni discusses the genesis of Born To Kwaito, which she co-authored with Sihle Mthembu. The book offers up a history of kwaito, with rigorous essays and journalism, as well as conversations with musicians, fans, engineers, photographers and filmmakers who bore witness to a revolution.
