Izak de Vries and Boekemakranka recently hosted a virtual book launch for Max Annas’s new novel, The Farm.
An explosive mix of psychological thriller and neo-Western, with a deeply political subtext, The Farm tells the story of a diverse group of people who barricade themselves inside a farmhouse for eight hours during a farm attack.
‘I was fascinated by the issue of farm murders,’ Max says. ‘It was something I wanted to write about to understand more.’
He explains that in South Africa, white people often blame black people for farm murders, but the reality is that anyone who lives in a remote area – like a farm – would be vulnerable to attack.
During the launch, Izak praises Max’s characters for their humanity – villains and victims alike.
