[Watch] ‘I wanted to … tell the story of South Africa since 1994’ – Brent Meersman on his new book, Rattling the Cage: Reflections on Democratic South Africa
 More about the book!

Pan Macmillan has shared a video of Brent Meersman introducing his new book, Rattling the Cage: Reflections on Democratic South Africa.

Meersman has a long career in journalism. He has been the co-editor of the human rights focus agency GroundUp for more than six years and is also chairperson of the Cape Town Press Club.

Rattling the Cage takes the reader on an informed tour of the South African reality: from the highs and lows, the successes and failures, FW de Klerk’s gaffes to Fees Must Fall, the Oscar Pistorius trial, the 2010 World Cup, triple BEE, global warming, the Covid-19 pandemic, gay rights in Africa and veganism.

Meersman says:

‘I wanted to have a look at how I felt about the country and what I thought, and my previous views and review them, and really tell the story of South Africa since 1994 and the transition, and come up with the narrative that I feel is the most true for why South Africa is the way it is today.’
