Labyrinth author Kate Mosse’s new series of books were inspired by her time at the Franschhoek Literary Festival
More about the book!
Kate Mosse will be in South Africa in May, to launch her new book, The Burning Chambers.
Mosse will visit the Kingsmead Book Fair, Exclusive Books Hyde Park, Exclusive Books Cavendish and the Franschhoek Literary Festival.
Mosse last visited the Franschhoek Literary Festival in 2013, and her time in the Cape inspired her new series of historical novels, which will cover three centuries and travel the world from Carcassonne to Southern Africa.
In the video below, Mosse reveals the details of the series:
‘Hello to all my readers in South Africa,’ she says. ‘I’m delighted to be talking to you about my new novel The Burning Chambers, which is the first in a new series of historical books that started in Franschhoek at the book festival there a few years ago.
‘It’s a Romeo and Juliet story. A girl, Minou, and a boy, Piet, who meet in Carcassonne in the south-west of France in 1562 on the eve of the religious wars that are going to rip France in two.
‘It’s also about a religious relic, it’s about the power that comes from knowing things about other people. But in the end, I suppose, it’s the story of families. Of two families, of a feud lasting 300 years.
‘I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I’ve enjoyed writing it. And if you do, you’re looking forward to the next books in the series that will take us to London, to Paris, to Amsterdam, the new colonies of America, and finally back home to Southern Africa, and the Cape, where the story begins.’
