Lupita Nyong’o to star in film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s memoir Born A Crime

Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, currently starring in the smash hit Black Panther, has announced that she has signed on to star in a feature film adaptation of Trevor Noah’s memoir Born A Crime.

‘When I read Trevor Noah’s Born A Crime, I could not put the book down,’ Nyong’o says on Facebook.

‘Excited to announce that I will be starring in and producing its feature film adaptation!’

Nyong’o is to play Noah’s mother, Patricia, who is a central figure in the book and in the comedian’s life, Deadline reports.

Noah posted on Instagram: ‘My mom is a powerful woman who could easily be one of the beautiful soldiers in Wakanda. So it’s beyond a perfect fit that she would be portrayed on the big screen by the radiant and regal Lupita Nyong’o. I’m beyond excited.’

Born A Crime was published in 2016, locally by Pan Macmillan SA. The book has won numerous awards, including the Thurber Prize for American Humor and the Nielsen Booksellers Choice Award, and was also enthusiastically publicly endorsed by Bill Gates and Hollywood star Tyler Perry.
