Eben Venter sat down with Penguin Random House recently to introduce his latest novel, Decima.

Venter discusses his research process that stretched far-reaching corners of the globe, the story behind the cover, and his hopes for what readers might take away from reading this creative blend of autofiction, animal fable, mystery and scientific inquiry.

An elegiac work for numerous voices, Decima is a moving and thrilling lament to loss in all its many guises.

‘A mountain of flesh she is, this Decima, as she lies. She summons her strength to rise, all four feet on sand and shale. Puffs twirl and settle as her toes find their place. Three on each foot. Decima stands.’

Decima is published in both English and Afrikaans, and is available at bookstores or online.
