‘We have never declared war with the ANC’ – Bantu Holomisa chats about his new book The Game Changer
 More about the book!

Bantu Holomisa chatted to Morning Live about his new biography Bantu Holomisa: The Game Changer.

Fondly known as the ‘General’ to his political colleagues, Bantubonke Holomisa is the former leader of the Transkei; former Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism and the current president of the United Democratic Movement. He has been a close friend of former President Nelson Mandela on the one hand, and expelled by the ANC on the other. This makes his co-authored biography, Bantu Holomisa: The Game Changer, a must read.

Holomisa is asked about why he doesn’t get his family involved in politics.

‘There’s no way I can parade my family in front of the UDM and say, “this is so-and-so, he must be given a position”.

‘I don’t even know if my son and Anele [Holomisa’s wife] are voting for me during the elections. It could well be that as former members of Sasco they are still … brainwashed and thinking about ANC all the time!

‘It’s not that I don’t want them to be involved, but I cannot influence them. They must follow their own careers.’

Holomisa also spoke about his relationship with the ANC leaders and President Jacob Zuma.

‘We have never declared war with the ANC,’ Holomisa says. ‘We can oppose each other in the house but that same afternoon we can go to restaurants, have drinks and chat about things, weekends we play golf together. So this democracy of South Africa is different from other countries.’
