‘This is meant to be a thought-provoking book!’ – Sue Nyathi chats to The Cheeky Natives about her book A Family Affair
 More about the book!

Sue Nyathi chatted to Letlhogonolo Mokgoroane and Dr Alma-Nalisha Cele of The Cheeky Natives about her new novel, A Family Affair.

Nyathi is the bestselling author of The Polygamist (2012) and The Gold Diggers (2018, longlisted for the prestigious Dublin Literary Award as well as the Barry Ronge Fiction Prize).

Her latest novel, A Family Affair, is a contemporary African saga that captures the complexities of family, culture and the societal constructs that surround women.

Mokgoroane asked: ‘What are you hoping your readers will get from the book?’

‘This is meant to be a thought-provoking book!’ Nyathi says. ‘There are certain cultures that we retain and maintain that are problematic. I’d like for us to talk about those things. Should we still hold onto them?

‘For me, it’s to strike up a conversation or many conversations that I think are very important. So that was my aim. There were things that were bothering me, and I wanted to know if they were bothering other people in the same way.’
