Award-winning author Maxine Case chatted to SABC Morning Live to discuss her stunning new novel, Softness of the Lime.
Case says the book is based on a true family story, about a love affair between slave and master.
Case made her literary debut with All We Have Left Unsaid, which won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize for Best First Book and the Herman Charles Bosman Prize.

‘I wanted to look at what a slave felt but also what a master felt,’ Case says. ‘I realise that my ancestory is made up of both, so I tried to be as balanced as possible – although obviously I have a soft spot for the slave.’
