Wendy Maartens will chat about Sylvester the lion and many other indigenous stories. Her beautiful collection will be available in English in April 2020.
Dibi Breytenbach will explain the research behind her thrilling series on rhino poaching.
Lente Roode, the CEO of the Hoedspruit Endangered Species Centre (HESC), will share her vision for rhinos and other species.
LAPA will also announce that Tippie, our iconic purple elephant, will become part of the fostering programme of a little elephant at Hoedspruit Elephant Rehabilitation and Development (HERD).
That is not all: LAPA will also announce that we have created a new series of Tippie books for the English market.
Ask any bookseller in South Africa: Week after week a little purple elephant finds itself on the Nielsen Bestseller lists in South Africa. These booklets by Reinette Palmer and Jose Palmer were so successful, that three of them were shortlisted for 2019 Sefika Awards. Each story is unique, interesting and the text is always supported by colourful, engaging illustrations that will aid comprehension and, more importantly, an understanding of the sounds that are produced by certain letters. The first, mega-selling, books were in Afrikaans. They could not be translated, for that would defeat the purpose of the stories being matched with sounds, words and pictures, so a completely new series has been developed and completed for young readers of English.
For a softer edge, there will be wine on offer that has been created to focus on the conservation of rhinos.
