Adriaan Basson and Pieter du Toit discuss Jacob Zuma’s ‘disastrous term in office’ and their new book Enemy of the People
 More about the book!

Investigative journalists Adriaan Basson and Pieter du Toit chatted to John Maytham on Cape Talk about their new book Enemy of the People: How Jacob Zuma stole South Africa and How the People Fought Back.

The book provides a detailed account of President Jacob Zuma’s ‘disastrous term in office’.

Basson is the editor of News24, while Du Toit is deputy editor of Huffington Post South Africa.

Maytham asks the authors whether the title of the book is not somewhat melodramatic.

‘No it’s not,’ Du Toit says.

‘We would argue that Zuma is the enemy of the people. The way he repurposed the state and diverted resources that should have gone to normal South Africans makes him enemy number one we would argue.’

Maytham asks whether the authors believe Zuma became president with a plan to stack institutions with his own people.

Basson says: ‘I think it was a combination of staying out of prison and making as much money as possible for him and his family.’
