Struik Nature Publisher Pippa Parker receives Special Honorary Award from the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (South African Academy for Science and Arts)
Pippa Parker, the Publications Manager/Publisher of Struik Nature at Penguin Random House SA, has been awarded a Special Honorary Award by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns (South African Academy for Science and Arts).
Erik Holm, author of Insectopedia: The Secret World of Southern African Insects/Insektopedie: Die geheime wereld van Suider-Afrikaanse insekte (also published by Struik Nature), is also on the list of award winners.

Pippa Parker receives the Academy’s special honorary award. For many years in South Africa, Struik Nature in Cape Town, currently an imprint of Penguin Random House (SA), has been the leading local publisher of popular natural science books that are undisputedly world class.
This success is due to the dynamic leadership of Ms Pippa Parker, the Publications Manager/Publisher of the Natural History Division (Struik Nature) at Penguin Random House.
Over the years, Pippa’s vision, good judgement, business acumen and personal interest have played a major role in promoting popular natural science books in South Africa.
In the 23 years that she has been at the helm of the imprint, an astounding 511 titles have been published by Struik Nature/Struik Publishers, mostly books on a wide range of natural science topics. Pippa’s competency and productivity as a publisher have greatly enriched the popular natural science literature in southern Africa, in both English and Afrikaans.
Ms Parker will receive the prize on 10 July, 2019 in Stellenbosch during the Akademie’s accolade ceremony.
