George Saunders’s became the second American to win the Man Booker Prize in October 2017.

His first full length novel, Lincoln in the Bardo, is a moving and original father-son story featuring none other than Abraham Lincoln, as well as an unforgettable cast of supporting characters, living and dead, historical and invented.

The Times Literary Supplement has shared an audio excerpt from the novel. The setting is a graveyard, the speakers its inhabitants; the ‘unkempt fellow’ is Abraham Lincoln, who has come to visit his recently deceased young son, Willie.
