Three Women by Lisa Taddeo – one of the most highly anticipated non-fiction debuts of 2019
More about the book!
Desire as we’ve never seen it before: Three Women is a riveting true story about the sex lives of three real American women.
Lisa Taddeo spent eight years and thousands of hours tracking the women whose stories comprise Three Women, even moving to the towns they lived in to better understand their lives. The result is a revelatory, brave and heartbreaking examination of female desire; both a sustained journalistic feat and a compulsively readable narrative.
About the book
It thrills us and torments us. It controls our thoughts, destroys our lives, and it’s all we live for. Yet we almost never speak of it. And as a buried force in our lives, desire remains largely unexplored—until now.
Over the past eight years, journalist Lisa Taddeo has driven across the United States six times to embed herself with ordinary women from different regions and backgrounds. The result, Three Women, is the deepest nonfiction portrait of desire ever written and one of the most anticipated books of the year.
All Lina ever wanted was to be desired. How did she end up in a marriage with two children and a husband who wouldn’t touch her?
All Maggie wanted was to be understood. How did she end up in a relationship with her teacher and then in court, a hated pariah in her small town?
All Sloane wanted was to be admired. How did she end up a sexual object of men, including her husband, who liked to watch her have sex with other men and women?
Consequences are handed out to some but not to others. Three Women is a record of unmet needs, unspoken thoughts, disappointments, hopes and unrelenting obsessions that tests the boundaries of non-fiction.
