‘On Friday night I’ll be chatting to the adorable food-goddess Mari-Louis Guy who is generously sharing her perfect red velvet cake and naartjie-flavoured melktert recipes with Tannie Maria,’ Sally Andrew, creator of the Tannie Maria Mysteries series, says. ‘I might also read some recipe-related extracts from my latest manuscript.

‘I am very excited to be testing out the 15 recipes for my latest Tannie Maria book. I’m grateful for the guinea-pig tasters at the gorgeous La Fontaine in Franschhoek. Unlike Tannie Maria, cooking is not my natural element, so I do loads of testing and adapting, with the help of friends and fans, and also with a professional chef.

‘In this case, Sophia-Maria Eygelaar, a kitchen-angel with some things in common with Maria herself.’

The event will be hosted by the afrochic La Fontaine Boutique Hotel in the heart of the Cape Winelands, Franschhoek.

Says Justin Martin of La Fontaine: ‘The hotel provides the perfect venue for a true South African experience, presented by our well-known local writer Sally Andrew. The collaboration of luxurious accommodation, delectable South African cuisine and fine wines, bodes well for what will be a superb weekend and a boost for our local tourism market.’

The fourth book in the Tannie Maria Mystery Series, The Milk Tart Murder, will be published by Umuzi in March 2022, and then look out for Struik’s Tannie Maria Cookbook in 2023. The other books in the series are A Recipe for Love and Murder, Tannie Maria and the Satanic Mechanic, and Death on the Limpopo.
