Geoff Nichols will be presenting a Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden Wednesday Talk titled ‘Indigenous plants for thriving gardens’.
This visually rich talk will take you behind the scenes of the creation of the Gardener’s Guide to Indigenous Garden Plants of Southern Africa , sharing the authors’ journey – from the initial vision to the 12-year process of bringing it to life.

Geoff Nichols, a well-known horticulturist and natural historian, is author of a number of books, including Growing Rare Plants. He has been photographing plants for over 40 years and has been one of the principal contributors to the Flora Publications Trust field guides. Nichols started the first medicinal plant nursery in South Africa and was part of the team which set up the iconic Durban Metropolitan Open Space system. Nichols has been recognised with many awards for his knowledge of plants and the natural world including the Botanical Society of South Africa’s Marloth Medal in 2015.
The Gardener’s Guide to Indigenous Garden Plants of Southern Africa will be available at a special price to registrants during the week of the talk at the Kirstenbosch Bookshop (online or from the shop at the Gardens).
