Cradling life – the wonders of the Cradle-Magaliesberg environs – don’t miss this virtual panel discussion (1 Dec)
More about the book!
The Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve and Cradle of Humankind comprise an utterly unique region.
The breadth of biodiversity, the fossil evidence of life’s origins, the exciting history of war and peace, and the geological formation of the world’s richest mineral deposits, all contribute to one of South Africa’s most treasured landscapes.
In this event, four experts will discuss this amazing place and the secrets of its sustainability.
- Tony DeCastro, ecologist and specialist in grassland and savanna biomes, will reveal the incredible biodiversity in the region and its importance as a natural ecosystem.
- Archaeology Professor Amanda Esterhuysen is Head of the Origins Museum and will explain the deep time fossil and archaeological record that has made the Cradle area world famous.
- Andre Wedepohl: Business Development Manager of Kedar Heritage Lodge and expert on the history of the region will talk about the South African War and why the Magaliesberg played such an important part in that campaign.
- Belinda Cooper: Co-ordinator of Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve has a comprehensive knowledge of the region and will discuss the opportunities and threats of today.
- The discussion will be co-ordinated by environmentalist Vincent Carruthers, author of Cradle of Life, the Story of the Magaliesberg and the Cradle of Humankind.
