Fiona Snyckers’s new novel, Lacuna – a response to JM Coetzee’s Disgrace from the point of view of Lucy Lurie – to be published by Pan Macmillan

Fiona Snyckers’s new novel, Lacuna, will be published by Pan Macmillan.

Lacuna is a response to JM Coetzee’s Disgrace, written from the point of view of Lucy Lurie.

‘We’re thrilled to be signing Fiona Snyckers (and her brilliant new novel, Lacuna) to the Pan Macmillan stable,’ the publisher writes on its Facebook page.

On her own Facebook page, Snyckers says: ‘I’m pleased and proud that Pan Macmillan are taking a chance on this potentially controversial novel.’

The book follows hot on the heels of Nthikeng Mohlele’s new novel Michael K, published by Pan Macmillan earlier this year, which is a response to JM Coetzee’s Life and Times of Michael K.

About the book

Deeply sunk in post-traumatic stress disorder following a gang rape at her father’s farmhouse in the Western Cape, Lacuna is a moving story of Lucy Lurie. She won’t be silenced. Her rape is not a metaphor. This is her story, and no one can take it away from her.

About the author

Snyckers is the author of the Trinity series of novels for young adults, and the Sisterz series of mobile phone novels, which was commissioned by the Shuttleworth Foundation. Her most recent novel, Now Following You, is a thriller published by Modjaji Books. She has been longlisted for the Sunday Times Literary Award four times, and has published numerous short stories in magazines and collections.
