Trevor Noah’s book Born A Crime wins Nielsen Booksellers Choice Award

Trevor Noah’s book took top honours, while The Book Lounge won best independent bookseller for the fourth year in a row, at the Sefika Awards last night.

The awards are announced annually at the South African Booksellers Association (SABA) and Publishers’ Association of South Africa (PASA) conference.

Noah won the Nielsen Booksellers Choice Award – a prize for South African booksellers’ favourite book – for his autobiography Born A Crime and Other Stories.

The high-flying comedian was up against Deon Meyer, Dikgang Moseneke, Elsabe Brits, Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen, Koelsoem Kamalie and Flori Schrikker for the award.

The winners of the annual Sefika Awards, celebrating the promotion of literacy and a culture of reading in South Africa by producing and selling quality books, were also announced at the conference.

Penguin Random House South Africa was announced as Trade Publisher of the Year, while The Book Lounge won Trade Bookseller of the Year (Independent) for the fourth year in a row.
