What makes an African city? Don’t miss this Jacana Media Conversation (28 Jul)
 More about the book!

Join Jacana Media for a conversation on what makes an African city.

Edgar Pieterse, Noor Nieftagodien and Koketso Moeti will be in conversation.

It’s been over a decade since, for the first time, the majority of the world’s population was found living in urban areas. Urbanisation is not only a matter of the number of people living in urban centres, it is also about how this shift reorganises society in different ways.

Yet, much of what we know and envisage for our cities is centred around Western cities like New York, London, Berlin, etc.

But what makes an African city? How should they develop and be sustained, given the different contexts and histories of African cities?
