The breadth and depth of ideas and events covered in John Kane-Berman’s new book, Between Two Fires, are striking, and he is forthright about the threats to freedom, democracy, and growth in contemporary South Africa.

During his career at the coal face of political change in South Africa, Kane-Berman has written four books and delivered 680 lectures about South African affairs, also both here and abroad. He is a former journalist on the Financial Mail, and was Chief Executive of the South African Institute of Race Relations for 31 years.
