The programme for the 2017 South African Book Fair has been released!

The SABF will take place in Johannesburg from Friday, 8 September to Sunday, 10 September. Venues include Museum Africa, The Market Theatre and Market Square.

Authors at the fair include Achmat Dangor, Ameera Patel, Angela Makholwa, Ayòbámi Adébáyò, Billy Kahora, Christa Kuljian, Bontle Senne, Craig Higginson, Deon Meyer, Fiona Melrose, Gail Schimmel, Ivan Vladislavić, Justice Malala, Lauren Beukes, Lebo Mashile, Mandla Langa, Makhosazana Xaba, Masande Ntshanga, Niq Mhlongo, Pamela Power, Yewande Omotoso, Zakes Mda, and many, many more.

The entry fee for all sessions is R30, unless otherwise stated.

Opening & closing times:

  • Day 1: Friday 8 September – 09:00-18:00
  • Day 2: Saturday 9 September – 09:00-18:00
  • Day 3: Sunday 10 September – 09:00-16:00

The literary component of SABF 2017 promises a varied line-up of events for diverse audiences, with generous offerings of fiction and non-fiction. There will be everything from readings of children’s books, through poetry and performance, to engagement around contemporary political issues; from book tours and book-club chats to test kitchens for recipe books on local-cuisine; and from practical workshops to ‘philosophy cafés’. With more than 100 South African writers and at least five international guests participating, and more than 60 events on the programme, this aspect of the Fair will amply showcase the tantalising benefits of being part of a reading public.
