Eva Mazza’s debut novel Sex, Lies and Stellenbosch is causing quite a stir.

South African fiction has always struggled to sell, with many publishing houses shying away from publishing local talent. Some of the bigger publishing houses will only publish two locally written books a year. Sex, Lies and Stellenbosch is now in its third reprint and is currently the second most sold fiction title in South Africa.

What has got it there? Is it the subject matter – ‘sex sells’? Is it the amazing social media campaign? Or the fact that people, especially those residing in Stellenbosch, are buying and reading it simply to see if they feature in the book? Or is it that the book is well-written and unputdownable? Perhaps it is a combination of all these factors.

The official Johannesburg launch is taking place at Love Books in Melville on Wednesday 27 February 2019.

Eva lives in Cape Town and will be launching the book at The Book Lounge on Wednesday 6 March.
