Listen to Michael Nassen Smith discussing his new book Confronting Inequality: The South African Crisis
 More about the book!

Michael Nassen Smith chatted to Michelle Constant on the Jet Set Breakfast on SAfm to give some insight into his new book Confronting Inequality: The South African Crisis.

The book features a variety of essays, from former Public Prosecutor Thuli Madonsela, Ben Turok, former President Kgalema Motlanthe and others, and provides a guide on how to confront and resolve the inequality that plagues South Africa.

‘Some of the essays are more polemical and others are more technical on the issue of inequality in South Africa,’ Nassen Smith says. ‘Some of the papers take on a specific dimension of inequality, like wage inequality or spacial inequality, but others make broader political and social points that press the importance and urgency of confronting inequality today, which I think is where potential readers would want to engage.

‘We’ve made sure the papers are written in an accessible style because we wanted broader readership, because we feel that confronting inequality is an issue of public concern and we want the public to engage the issue because resolving it is so fundamental today.’
