 More about the book!

Jacana Media and the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation invite you to the launch of Marabastad to Mogadishu: The Journey of an ANC Soldier by Hassen Ebrahim.

Hassen Ebrahim will be chatting to Mail & Guardian legal reporter Franny Rabkin at the launch.

‘This book is an important contribution to the history of our liberation struggle and takes us on the author’s remarkable journey from the bushes of Angola to the World Trade Centre and finally the adoption of our Constitution, one of our new democracy’s greatest achievements. ‘ – Marion Sparg, former deputy executive director of the Constitutional Assembly

As part of the 1976 generation, Hassen Ebrahim’s political consciousness developed and grew while studying at Westville university in Durban. As an ANC member he was forced into exile and rose to political leadership of the movement’s underground structures, also known as the Kabwe Machinery, in Botswana.

This book is a record of Ebrahim’s life’s work as a committed cadre of the ANC, a fearless operative during the 1980s when South Africa was burning, and his dedication to the task of helping to negotiate South Africa’s interim and later final constitution.
