Published in the year of the 40th anniversary of Steve Biko’s murder, The Black Consciousness Reader is an essential collection.

The book will be launched on Tuesday, 28 November at 1 Central Place Shisa Nyama in Newtown.

The book brings together the history, culture, philosophy and meaning of Black Consciousness through the voices, art, religion, music, writing, politics, solidarity and dreams of some of those who developed it in order to finally bring revolution to South Africa.

The Black Consciousness Reader is written and compiled by political journalist Baldwin Ndaba, culture writer Therese Owen, journalist Masego Panyane, digital journalist and poet Rabbie Serumula and author and political analyst Janet Smith, the book is complemented by videography and photographs by award-winning photographer Paballo Thekiso.
