About the book

Words you can taste in your mouth, courageous and searing in honesty. – Andrew Brown, author

Philip Myburgh was born on a farm in Muldersvlei into a bilingual home. His deep love for both his mother tongue – English, and that of his father – Afrikaans, can be traced back to his parents who read widely in both languages.

It was in the early eighties, at Rondebosch Boys’ High School that he started to write poetry. He was then navigating his teenage years and his country was in turmoil. It was through the medium of poetry that he attempted to make sense of both and so it has continued as he has traversed life as a husband, father, lawyer and farmer.

His poems have a broad reach, touching on the different facets of his life such as his struggle with depression, his observations of everyday life and the beginnings of growing old.

Fifty-two | Twee-en-vyftig is available at Book Lounge, Clarke’s Bookshop, Exclusive Books Stellenbosch and Love Books, as well as at Cape Rebel. It is also available for sale through the Deli at Joostenberg, Philip’s family farm. Orders can be placed at nicky@joostenberg.co.za.
