The Unburnable Book: Margaret Atwood aims a flamethrower at an ‘unburnable’ edition of The Handmaid’s Tale to protest book banning
 More about the book!

Margaret Atwood has produced a special fireproof edition of her classic, and often banned, novel The Handmaid’s Tale, to protest the banning of books in America and around the world.

Penguin Random House partnered with Sotheby’s to create the book, and proceeds from the project will benefit PEN America’s work defending freedom of expression:

Across the United States and around the world, books are being challenged, banned, and even burned. So we created a special edition of a book that’s been challenged and banned for decades.

Printed and bound using fireproof materials, this edition of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale was made to be completely unburnable. It is designed to protect this vital story and stand as a powerful symbol against censorship.

The book will be presented for auction by Sotheby’s New York from May 23 to June 7 with all proceeds going to benefit PEN America’s work in support of free expression.
