Winners announced for BlackBird Books Writer’s Residency for young African womxn

BlackBird Books has announced the two writers who have won places on its new writer’s residency.

The residency, which will take place at Casa Lorde in Pretoria, is aimed at young African womxn who are starting their careers as writers.

From BlackBird:

We received an astonishing response to this residency project – over 200 applications! This tells us that this project is important and a lot of black women writers want to tell their stories and need support for this.

It was very difficult to choose the winners, but I think we can be sure that what we’re doing is relevant and all this work will actually change something.

The winners for October are Relebone Myambo and Naledi Mashishi. Relebone wants to write a book of creative non-fiction about depression, and Naledi writes very urban and creative short stories.

Congratulations to the two winners!
