Onkgopotse JJ Tabane spoke to the two authors on Power FM, where the journalists explained how the story had unfolded.
‘When Jacob Zuma took over, he had an economy that was growing,’ Du Toit says. ‘Now the country is moribund, the nation is staring down the barrel of a gun, held by a thief.
‘The big things that will define Zuma’s presidency – there are two. Firstly that when he took over, the ANC commanded 70 per cent of the electorate, the first thing is what he has done to the ANC, what he has done to the ethos of the ANC. The second thing is what he has done to the state, what he has done to the state institutions that are supposed to protect our institutional democracy.
‘When he first came in, he had a lot of goodwill, people said that he could connect to the people unlike the Mbeki presidency. But instead he has made himself and his family rich beyond measure.’
