Calling all writers! Submissions are now open at Jacana Media

Jacana Media is calling for submissions! If you’re a writer who is looking for a publisher, this is a rare chance to have your work read and considered by one of the country’s best.

This year, submissions are open from 5 September to 30 November.

Whether it’s an idea for the next great South African novel, the children’s book every child needs to have, a must-hear memoir or burgeoning political analysis, Jacana wants to read it.

This year Jacana will consider submissions in the following genres:

Lifestyle
Children’s
Fiction
Politics/current affairs/history
Memoir/biography/autobiography
Natural history/travel
Cookery/baking
Business
Self-help

And for the first time submissions are open for Jacana’s new imprint dedicated to science-fiction, fantasy and horror: Mother.

Mother launched in August 2023 with Langabi: Season of Beasts and is the first South African imprint dedicated to the sci-fi, fantasy and horror genres.
