‘A daring blend of romance, crime and history’ – Join Louisa Treger for the launch of The Dragon Lady at Love Books (16 May)
More about the book!
Love Books and Jonathan Ball Publishers invite you to the launch of The Dragon Lady by Louisa Treger.
About the book
Tsitsi Dangarembga called The Dragon Lady: ‘A daring blend of romance, crime and history; an intelligent expose of the inherent injustice and consequences of all forms of oppression.’
Opening with the shooting of Lady Virginia Courtauld in 1950s Rhodesia, The Dragon Lady tells the story of this spirited, boundary-breaking woman with a snake tattoo running the length of her one leg.
From the glamorous Italian Riviera before the Great War via the art deco glory of Eltham Palace where Ginie is ostracised for being a foreign divorcee at the time of Edward VIII and Mrs Simpson, the Courtaulds leave the confines of post-war Britain to forge a new life in Rhodesia, only to find that being progressive liberals during segregation proves mortally dangerous.
Deeply evocative of time and place, The Dragon Lady subtly blends fact and fiction to paint the portrait of an extraordinary woman in an era of great social and cultural change.
