Legendary gender-rights activist and trade union veteran Emma Mashinini dies

Emma Mashinini, formidable trade unionist and human rights activist, who was was a recipient of the Order of the Baobab and the Order of Luthuli, passed away on Monday at the age 87.

Terry Morris, MD of Picador and Pan Macmillan, who published Mashinini’s memoir Strikes Have Followed me All my Life, called Mashinini ‘ feisty and inspirational’, telling Books LIVE: “It was a privilege to publish her book and to have her as an author on our list.”
